Reducing Bounce Rate

Today, we're going to tell you about the “bounce rate,” which means that users who come to your site don't have any other interactions after the landing page. As with many concepts related to the Internet, you can find that this concept is often used as the English equivalent of “bounce rate”.

One of the biggest problems of e-commerce sites is that users who visit the site leave the site without purchasing any products. This may be due to the design of your site, your marketing strategy, the speed of your site, or something else. Check out our other posts on our blog page to learn about the topics we are talking about!

Your users who visit your ecommerce site are divided into two in the first step: those who leave the site after reading one page and those who are directed to another page on the site. We call the metric by which users who read the first page and leave are measured “bounce rate”.

The bounce rate is calculated by dividing single-page sessions by the total number of sessions.

One of the rates with which the exit rate is often confused is the “exit rate”. Exit rate measures exit after browsing the site for a while, while bounce rate measures exit after the first page.
Different proportions are observed in each area...
Before you try to reduce the bounce rate, you should ask yourself: “do I need to reduce my bounce rate right away? “Immediate bounce rates are usually seen in the range of 70-90% on blogs, 40-60% on news and content sites, 30-50% on corporate sites, and 20-40% on e-commerce sites.

Why is the bounce rate so high?

In our previous posts, we talked about the conversion rate. The reasons why the bounce rate is low are similar to the reasons why the conversion rate is low. These are usually as follows;

  • The design of the site is too complicated
  • content or products are not interesting
  • Difficulty using the site
  • long loading time of the site
  • SEO and irrelevant content (not finding what you are looking for in a search engine)

How does bounce rate decrease?

If, after reviewing the reasons above, you still have not been able to increase the bounce rate to the level you want, we can give you a few suggestions.

Make sure that you correctly identify the advertising areas on your site. Ads that block the actual content are frustrating for users. Pop-up ads can also lose their effect and cause users to leave the site if not used at the right place and time.

The correct spelling is just as important as the accuracy of the information you provide. Users who come to get information and experience spelling errors and speech disorders will leave your site and turn to different sources.

For users, it may be more tempting to watch a description, a long post, or your history instead of reading it. It is a known fact that in our age, visual-oriented content is consumed more and more. If you can fit what you are talking about in a video that is less than 2 minutes long, it can increase the length of time users stay on your site.

You can interest users by emphasizing the main idea of the topic with bullet points, bold/italics, tables and diagrams.

If you have added a different link, you should make sure that it opens in a different tab. You can change this from the infrastructure panel of your website. (If you've worked with a web designer, he'll do what you need.)

Maybe your bounce rate doesn't have to drop right away because your users find what they're looking for right away? Make sure you provide the information customers need in the right place. We mentioned above that rates may vary in different areas, keep this in mind.
